MIKANO WHEN IT RAINS GLITTER PART.1

Emerging French-Cameroonian hip-hop artist Mikano has released his first mixtape Melting Balloons, which comes with cinematic visuals for When It Rains Glitter - Part.1’. The video revolves around people; their differences, their similarities, their unique beauty and our relationships to one another. As Mikano explains, life is “full of highs and lows, beautiful surprises and deceptions, tears of joys and sadness and this song pictures it well,” and so the complexities of our day-to-day existence are captured in this contemplative single. This view is perhaps perfectly summed up in the juxtaposition of the song’s title ‘When It Rains Glitter’, in which the pathetic fallacy of rain (often depicting sadness in artistic spaces) is paired with that of glitter, a symbol of hope or, inversely, false promise. The whole sparkling production mirrors this other-wordly image, which can be perceived as dystopian or utopian, depending on the listener. Check out the visuals for ‘When It Rains Glitter’ below. Composed of six frames revolving around the characters, as directed by up-and-coming Parisian director Lokmane. - Hannah Thacker
